Remember that old movie, "How the West Was Won"? The truth is that the lands of the West are under continual environmental attack and we are losing the battle. The wildness of the West has been tortured and marred, paved over and scarred, and developed since the near genocide and extinction of the indigenous tribes who actually knew how to preserve the land. I want my grandchildren to be able to love and enjoy the wonder of the West. In 2016 the USA elected a white nationalist, climate change denying, sociopathic, narcissistic con man. He is the ONLY leader of a nation in the world to deny climate change. It will take a herculean effort to stop him from selling America's public lands - let alone make a dent in rising global temperatures. It is more important than ever to speak out and do whatever we can collectively to stop the madness.
Please consider supporting the following groups (and/or others) as they seek to preserve what is left of the West and awaken the world to the reality of the environmental calamity in which we find ourselves.
A few years ago, while at Arches NP, I met a representative of this wonderful group. I support them through Amazon Smile and think they epitomize the correct approach to stopping the destructive madness of development.
Seen the movie, "Bidder 70"? See it and support this important group. Here are the words of Tim DeChristopher as he was being sentenced for taking radical action to save precious lands:
"You can steer my commitment to a healthy and just world if you agree with it, but you can’t kill it. This is not going away. At this point of unimaginable threats on the horizon, this is what hope looks like. In these times of a morally bankrupt government that has sold out its principles, this is what patriotism looks like. With countless lives on the line, this is what love looks like, and it will only grow.” Friends of the Earth www.foe.org/
